In September 2019, we participated in a ‘No To Xenophobia’ march which was organised by the People’s Coalition Against Xenophobia, migrants, trade unions and civil society organisations. The march started near the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein and proceeded to the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown where a memorandum was handed to a a provincial government official. Prompted by the spate of xenophobic violence in Gauteng, it called on the government to take more active steps to combat xenophobia and GBV.
